CONFERENCE FOCUS:

This conference is designed for patients, parents, health care providers, administrators, educators, advocates, researchers and community-based organizations. The focus is on strengthening the infrastructure of the sickle cell community through education and action; fostering advocacy and collaborative networks with the best possible programs, practices and policies that result in prevention of illness, improvement of the quality of life of affected persons, and finding a cure for Sickle Cell Disease.

SCDAA 40th Annual Convention

Instructions for Submitting Abstracts


The Annual Convention of SCDAA seeks to highlight the work of its Community-based Member Organizations and Others working on behalf of people with sickle cell disease and their families. Individuals or Organizations interested in presenting reports on work completed or in progress should submit an abstract on their work using the form below. All approved abstracts will be published in the final program to be distributed to registered attendees of the conference. Abstracts judged to be the best in their categories will be selected for presentation as Lead Lectures to allow longer and broader presentation.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:

Abstract text must be submitted in its final and ready condition, must be written in English and contain the following:


  • TITLE: Use a concise title typed in boldfaced CAPITAL LETTERS.




  • AUTHORS: List authors’ names (First name, Middle Initials, LAST NAME) and institutional affiliations as briefly as possible, with city, state and country. Authors of different institutions and their corresponding institutions should be labeled with numbers in superscript.




  • Use standard abbreviations




  • ABSTRACT TEXT: Should be structured according to standard format: Objective or Purpose, Method, Results, and Conclusions, and be submitted as follows:

  • Written in the past tense, describing work completed and results. Abstracts with no results will be rejected.

  • Text no more than One Page in length, single-spaced, with line space between paragraphs.

  • Text readable in Microsoft Word format in 12-point Times New Roman font.

  • Margins, 1 inch at top, bottom, left and right, left-justified with no paragraph indentations.

  • Single space after period at end of sentence.

Abstracts will be presented in four Simultaneous Sessions broadly grouped under the following:

  • Community-based Programs: Advocacy, Collaboration in Healthcare, Outreach. (Designed to demonstrate community-based activities)

  • Patient Care: Clinical Care or Research, Health Services Organization and Delivery

  • Public Health and Psychosocial Programs: Public Health or Psychosocial Research and Services, Health Education, Health Communications

  • Nursing Symposium: Special Session addressing Nursing Issues and Contributions to Care

  • Scientific Symposium: Special Session addressing scientific and research issues, developments and contributions to care
