Abstract:The propagation of paraxial light beams injected at an inclined angle in a planar waveguide with finite width is studied by numerical method. The soliton beams with different wavelength and same width, if their incident point and incident slanting angle are the same, will propagate along the same periodic Z-type route in the planar waveguide. With the power of the beam increasing, the distance between two adjacent reflecting points will become longer and longer with the propagation distance and the Z-type route will lose its periodicity. When the power of a beam become fairly strong, the beam will propagate along z direction of the waveguide, and will no longer be reflected back and forth between the two boundaries of the planar waveguide. Using the characteristic that a beam injected at an inclined angle in the waveguide will propagate along different route with different power, a power switch and an optical time division demultiplexer are designed.

Abstract:The SO2 concentration measurement principle based on ultra-violet fluorescence and the design of SO2 analyzer circuit system are discussed. The paper expatiates on not only the hardware structure of the analyzer circuit, but also the structure and flow of the analyzer software. It respectively realizes temperature control of high temperature and cooling control circuits, which are used in reactor, converter and PMT. Acquisition of ultra-violet fluorescence signal is implemented by CPLD. The USB interface is designed using UART to USB bridge. GPIB interface is simulated using parallel interface. Performance test proves that the analyzer can monitor the concentration of SO2 linearly and steadily in the range of 0 to 143 mg/m. Compared with same kind oversea analyzer, in 48-hour continuous operating experiment, this analyzer has the advantages of high sensitivity, real time measurement and good stability.

Abstract:In order to investigate the tribological performance of laser clad coating on die steel, laser cladding techniques were adopted with Fe-based alloy powders. The tests were carried out by using laser clad layers as upper samples and GCr15 steel as low samples with HT-500 wear tester. The morphologies of wear scars were observed with optical microscopy, and the width and the depth of the wear samples were measured. In the meantime, the wear rate was calculated theoretically. Under dry sliding condition, As the tests shown, friction coefficient decreases with the load increasement gradually, and then increases. And the wear performance of 300 g load is better than that of 500 g load under dry sliding condition. Under lubricant condition, with the increasement of load, the friction coefficient decreases gradually. And the friction coefficient, wear rate and wear width under lubricant are smaller than those under dry friction with the same load.

Abstract:With the perturbation method, we present a (1+2)-dimensional ((1+2)D) soliton solution in the second approximation in nematic liquid crystals (NLCs). Numerical simulations confirm the analytical soliton solution in the strongly nonlocal case, and show that the soliton solution in the second approximation is more accurate than that in the zeroth approximation. It is found that, in an NLC, the critical power of a soliton accords with the result of numerical simulation, and the critical power of a strongly nonlocal soliton is in direct proportion to (wm/w)2, where wm is a characteristic length of the material response, and w is the soliton width. © IOP Publishing Ltd.

Abstract:The depressed-index dual core PCF-based broadband directional coupler is designed by using semivectorial finite difference method. The influence of the structural parameters on the coupling characteristics in the dual core PCF was studied. The results show that the structural parameter of the cladding of the dual core PCF and the doping degree in the dual core region are optimised, the broadband coupling can be realised: in the wavelength range of 1.22-1.65 μm, the value of the coupling length is stabilized at 26637 nm ± 235 nm and when the couplers are designed as two kinds of couple with coupling ratio of 50% and 10%, the coupling ratios of (50±0.702)% and (10±0.664)% are realized, respectively.

Abstract:A scheme of effective restraining zero rank central band was proposed and demonstrated, using electronic-optical frequency modulation (EO-FM). And a simplex system RoF communication system was presented based on the above technique in the article. Optical system software-Optisystem5.0 is adopted in the simulation. The simulation results show that the simplex-directional 5 Gbit/s data modulating in UHF microwave with 24 GHz can be successfully transmitted over a 15 km-length SMF with 5 dBm transmitted power, 20 ps/nm/km dispersion, and 0.25 dB/km attenuation.

Abstract:We have studied the properties of blue-LED wafers grown on GaN with similar dislocation density and different surface flatness. Results indicate that the smooth surface morphology of the undoped GaN layer leads to better layer periodicity in multiple quantum well (MQW) and smooth surface morphology of LED wafers. The surface flatness of the undoped GaN layer has little effect on the forward voltage and output power of the LED. However, the reverse leakage current and the lifetime of the LED wafer grown on the flatter GaN layer improved evidently. On the other hand, wafers grown on the GaN layer with worse surface flatness show better electrostatic discharge (ESD) characteristics. © 2008 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Abstract:The voltammetric behaviors of graphite (GP) and its composites with carbon nanotube (CNT) were studied in 5 M H2SO4 + 1 M VOSO4 solution with cyclic voltammetry (CV), and the surface morphology of the composites was observed with scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results obtained from voltammetry show that the redox couples of V(IV)/V(V) and V(II)/V(III), as positive and negative electrodes of all vanadium flow liquid battery, respectively, have good reversibility but low current on the GP electrode, and the current can be improved by CNT. It is found from the observation of SEM that the CNT is dispersed evenly on the surface of sheet GP when they are mixed together. The best composition for the positive and the negative of all vanadium flow liquid battery determined by comparing voltammetric behavior of the composite electrodes with different content of CNT is 5:95 (wCNT/wGP) for both positive and negative electrodes. The activity of the composite electrode can be affected by the heat treatment of CNT. CNT treated at 200 °C gives better activity to the composite electrode. © 2008 Elsevier B.V.
