***RADIO TRENT***

Jingle Mad post from Len Groat on Sun May 27 2007, 11:15PM

^ Radio Trent ~ Sounds like someone got hold of the master tapes …

These are from several packages produced between 1975 and 1978. They are not connected with Emison: they were ALL produced by Johnny Arthey the record producer; main credit 'Eloise' Barry Ryan. They were recorded in Wembley London.

Vocalists included Vicky Brown (Joe Brown’s (late) wife, and several members of First Class (Beach Baby)

The 'Sounds like you want to hear' came about from a mix of ideas from Bob Snyder the first PC, and MD Dennis Maitland (former Radio London Big L salesman)

Bob Snyder left in March 1977, I joined in April 1977 so used these, but many were edited to be
shorter and more useable: the weekend one became just ‘we’ve got all the weekend music on Trent 301’

The 'All you need' and 'Sound it out' were again recorded at Wembley, 78 to 79. I wrote many of the lyric lines, and also went to the sessions. For one package we (unusually) persuaded the singers to stack the vocals, which the MU would have objected to IF it had found out! I have pictures of that session.

I wrote the 'A Song from a summer day that used to be...' which was well produced, and quite good for a British jingle in 1978. We had to work the soloist to get that solo. At that time British singers NEVER had the flair of US ones.

When Dennis Maitland left Radio Trent I was put in charge of the jingle packages, and of course, used exclusively
Alfasound from 1980 to 1988.

I hope this clears up ‘who did which packages’. As far as I know Johnny Arthey did not do jingles for anyone else, he was a friend of Dennis Maitland’s.

The fact (younger) collectors might think Emison did these.... shows how long ago it was!

Best wishes

Len

WPEN Philadelphia (dubs from 15 IPS masters)

In the spring of 1975 WPEN returned to the air as "95PEN" with an oldies format. Mike St. John made his Philly debut at this time, and legend Joe Niagara soon joined the station with an afternoon drive show. The revived station originally played rock and roll hits from about 1955 to 1963, but newer music was added to the playlist over time; by the late '70s the music mix was really closer to Adult Contemporary than oldies. Ratings were never spectacular, and WPEN opted to change formats in 1979.
