  • Performed an assessment of business risk factors for Nicola Corporation's launch of Olivio spread; December 1997

  • Consulted with Media Research Center, Alexandria, VA, on a direct mail piece to be sent to their Board of Trustees; January 1997.

  • Faculty Internship at Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. during fall 1993 Sabbatical. Worked half time on new product development projects, primarily under the supervision of the Division Manager of New Products. Also reported at times to the Business Unit Manager in the Non-Beverage Division and Marketing Promotions Manager. My activities included: (1) observing and sometimes participating in business meetings (e.g., interfacing with new products consultants from IQJ ad agency, strategic plans presentations, proposal presentations by outside vendors, new product planning meetings, new product task force meetings, new business committee meetings, etc.), and (2) contributing to various projects; June-December 1993. Some of my more significant contributions were:

  • Conducted secondary research on specialty channels of distribution and on selected food product categories of interest to new product management. Wrote reports summarizing my findings that were used by management to assess which categories would be worth further pursuing.

  • Conducted secondary research and wrote reports summarizing findings and presenting strategic recommendations and implications on the isotonic drink market.

  • Developed a discussion outline and conducted functional interviews with people in areas such as strategic planning, packaging, research and development, etc. to get historical information on new food products for our current new product efforts. Wrote up a summary report on the interviews distributed to key people at Ocean Spray and its advertising agency.

  • Helped organize, observed, and evaluated focus group sessions.

  • Organized and participated in a new product idea brainstorming session.

  • Conducted "store checks" at supermarkets in the Providence, RI area to observe and report on store demonstrators. Consulted with New Product Manager on some of the weaknesses of these demonstrations and gave recommendations for improvements.

  • Summarized and analyzed research reports from a potential promotional supplier to help the Marketing Promotions Manager decide whether to use the supplier.

  • Summarized and analyzed FIND/SVP marketing intelligence report.

  • Wrote marketing plan and participated in business planning sessions for startup of Norton weekly community newspaper, Media and Education Workshop, Norton, MA; October 1986
