The study program”Environmental Design” is managed in the following ways of forms:


The traditional study methods:

  • lectures;

  • studies;

  • the defence of the project




Interactive methods:




  • seminaries;

  • training work, workshops




A student’s independent work:




  • reports;

  • working out projects;

  • practices.




^ 6.7. Practices of the Study Program

Practice which occurs outside the school of higher education is the integral part of the study program”Environmental Design”.

According to Regulations for the first level of state higher professional education

(The Republic of Latvia MK 20-03-2001) amount of practice is 16 credit points.

Many ways of practice are privided in the study program:

Professional Practice – total amount is 10 credit points( c.p.)

Museum(Informative) Practice-amount is- 2 c.p.

Plein-Air Practice – amount is 2 c.p.

Pre-Degree Practice – amount is 2 c.p.

^ 7.1. A Short Description of Practice

Practice provided for the study process of the program”Environmental Design” is shown in the following table:

Students find the place of practice which corresponds with their chosing specialization. They work independently or in team, analyze and manage projects according to a customer’s demands. They practically use obtained knowledge, skills and also skills of making projects.

Students look for, collect, summarize information in different forms for their qualification work according its theme, they investigate and analyze analogous, find and select materials, choose technologies, summarize all materials selected in different ways for qualification work(project)

All practices occur according to regulations of practice and program of practice of the study program . Practice is estimated according to” Passed” or “ Not passed” according to the Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers Nr.141 of the standard for the first level of higher professional education. All regulations connected with forms of practices see in Appendices.

6.7.2. Managing and Implementation of Museum Practice


Museum (Informative)Practice for students of the study program “Environmental Design” is managed in different states giving students the possibility to visit museums and exhibitions purposefully. Many trips were managed for students of the study program “Environmental Design” from 2003 year. For example:




  • 2003 ; The Netherlands, Amsterdam, Museum of Van-Gogh,

  • 2003; Germany, Berlin, The Modern Design Gallery, The Museum of Applied Arts;

  • 2003; England, London, The Museum of Design, The Exhibition of WEB Design, The Exhibition of Furniture, The State Gallery;

  • 2004; Saint Peterburg, Hermitage, The Ešer’s Exhibition

  • The Russian Museum, The Exhibition of Danish Design, The Gallery of Modern Art;

  • 2004; Lithuania, Šiauliai, The Museum of Modern Art;

  • 2004; Ukraine, Feodosia, The Gallery of Aivazovsky, The Museum of Bahchisarai




Students write references –reports about definite forms and amount of their museum practice. The seminary is managed where students give short characteristics of what they have seen. This work is estimated with a test.


^ 6.7.3. Managing and Implementation of Plein-Air (Learninig in the Open Air)Practice

Plein-Air (Learninig in the Open Air) Practice is managed for the students of the study program “Environmental Design”. This practice is implemented in Riga, in country-sides of Latvia and other countries. The students from other schools of higher educations also join this type of practice.

Many practices were managed from 2003. For example,




  • 2003 –Russia, Saint Peterburg;

  • 2003 – Rīga;

  • 2004 – Latvia, Salacgrīva, Latvija;

  • 2004 – Ukraine, the Crimes, Jalta.




The following places are provided for Plein-Air (Learninig in the Open Air) Practice in 2005:




  • 2005– Rīga;

  • 2005 – Latvia, Salacgriva;

  • 2005 – Ukraine, the Crimes, Jalta;

  • 2005 – Latvia, country-sides of Daugavpils, Vabole.




The review of students’ works are managed in a form of a test after plein-air practice, where their works are evaluated, as well as the exhibitions of these works are managed.

Par plenēra prakses laikā paveikto studenti atskaitās darbu skatēs, kur darbi tiek novērtēti; tiek organizētas studentu darbu izstādes.

For example,

  • 2003 , the joint exhibition of students’ plein-air practice works was managed

  • together with BRI, University of Daugavpils and SPPA ;

  • 2004, – the program exhibition of students’ plein-air practice works “Jalta-2004”

  • was managed in Art Gallery BRIART in BRI ;

  • 2004 – Irina Kopeikina’s personal art exhibition “The Crimea and Me” was managed in Art Gallery BRIART in BRI .




^ 6.7.4. Managing and Implementation of Professional Practice

The leadership of the study program working purposefully with different firms and companies sign agreements with them, and develop the data base , where offers of employers are summarized.


The program using the demands of BRI, provides the school of higher education with modern designers, as well as students are provided with practice managing the projects of the school of higher education:




  • the editorial office of the scientifically-practical study journal „Communicator” of

  • BRI;

  • the editorial office of the scientifically-practical study journal ”Baltijas Juridiskais

  • Žurnāls”/ ”The Baltic Juridical Journal”of BRI;

  • “World Cultural Fund” of BRI;

  • the Advertising Agency of BRI;

  • the editorial office of the student newspaper “„БРИтва”/ ”Razor”of BRI ;

  • the theatre „Kabriolets”/ “ Cabriolet” of BRI;

  • the multimedia centre of BRI, etc...
